Has AKMA been turned by Homeland Security? Romans 13, AKMA? Can you give us a preemptive sermon? Bless the Halliburton-built Detention Camps? Teach us patience, at least? Or, the art of the parable? Who thought that we in our lifetime would have the opportunity to live up to our convictions? May we prove equal, Lord, to our calling, whether it be satire or sermon, to bear witness when our hour comes. Me, I am going peacefully muttering Romans 13, as so many have.
William Deresiewicz in The American Scholar, cited by Dialogic:
What attracts professors to students, then, is not their bodies but
their souls. Young people are still curious about ideas, still believe
in them — in their importance, their redemptive power. Socrates says in
the Symposium that the hardest thing about being ignorant is that
you’re content with yourself, but for many kids when they get to
college, this is not yet true. They recognize themselves as incomplete,
and they recognize, if only intuitively, that completion comes through
eros. So they seek out professors with whom to have relationships, and
we seek them out in turn.
As Dungeon Master to the Stars my experience is similar. Even when wealthy people get out of school, they recognize themselves as incomplete, and they recognize, if only intuitively, that their completion comes through eros. So they seek me out from all over the world to get their fannies tanned. I would rather be teaching co-eds than their parents, but we all do what we can. It is all strictly Socratic, Madame.
Not the kind of thing that polite people discuss in public, Joel. What are the chances that Give and Take will link to this post, Stacy? Journalists, being objective and having no stake in the outcome, generally give voice to both sides equally. How come Wealth Bondage is never heard, except through its intermediaries, at one remove, mouthing banalities? Peter Panepento is turning pink. Walk quickly past the Bordello, Peter. No one will ever know you snuck a look.
I'd like in any case to underscore a far larger and
more significant point that no one should doubt or forget: The CIA has
a vital mission in protecting the United States, and the focus of this
agency is there, on that decisive work.
Right. Back to work. No sense checking up on the CIA. They are protecting the US by editing Wikipedia. Nice to know they have the staff time available. Must have the Terrorist thing well under control.
American companies work with China to optimize surveillance and control. When will this technology come to America? Soft on Terror? Not me. I want a complete dossier on every citizen. Even the President will tremble when I show him pictures of the old drug deals and drunken debauches. No one is going to prevent me from stamping out Terror. I will be the Decider's Decider!
