"There are no second acts in American lives." F. Scott Fitzgerald. Still, there is always a Dumpster. To qualify for a position in the Dumpster we really should ask for a resume, and an interview, as well as a background check. What comes to my mind is a requirement that the applicant either have failed miserably to achieve his or her documented potential, or will have walked away from success under ambiguous circumstances, or will have succeeded in failing nobly at everything he or she has attempted. Rather than letters of recommendation, we will ask for three or more letters of Good Riddance from Reputable Persons within the applicant's former Interpretive Community, Village, Religious Congregation, Reading Formation, Episteme, Paradigm, Language Game, Discipline, Con, Place of Employment, Political Party, Family, or Clan. As a working rule of thumb: If you belong anywhere, you don't belong here.
