Women are subordinate to men, as men are subordinate to God, and citizens to the President, their Commander and Chief. We will all be happier when submissives know their place. We would not break you, but serve us you must, as I serve God and the President in humbleness of heart.
We are all terrorists, since any of us can be called one by George W. Bush and detained indefinitely without charges. The right denied tyrants is his perogative. And the supine public accepts its loss of political liberty as the price of comfort and consumer freedom. May those who are unconcerned rot in the jails of the President's choice.
But ink on paper is no way to tell a story anymore. Film and movies are the best way to tell a story today. That works, so you don’t have to be a performer yourself anymore. Because of our terrible high schools, we have a huge illiterate population, but they can sure as hell watch a movie.
Our democracy consists of those who can sure as hell catch a soundbite. Moral imagination you don't learn from blockbusters and sitting passively as spectacles roll past.
The public was duped by Libby. Was Judith Miller "witness to a crime" (outing Valerie Plame), or an accomplice in an act of treachery (making a bogus case for war using soundbites and bs from her pal, Libby, who turned to her again to convey a "message" via Plame's outing to all who would protect democracy from Knaves in power and from their Lackeys in the press.) Judith Miller should get the Wealth Bondage "My Hands Were Tied Award." There was nothing she could do, etc. She was bound by a Code of Conduct to conceal her sources, their duplicity, and her own complicity in fooling the American public.
The artist as "canary in the mine shaft: Includes an acknowledgment of ideas from Jon Husband. And what will the key arts be? Satire? Dumb show? Indy films? Rap? Street theater? Pirate radio? Podcasts? Blog-Art? I don't think Candidia will fund it, and I don't think advertisers will support it, and I don't think the media will cover it. They have turned their backs on the mine as it fills with gas. And the canaries can sing to the doomed, but there is no exit - unless we come together as a movent once again. Art will indeed lead us, but we will have to promulgate it among ourselves like samizdat. The most important works of art today are in one Dumpster or another. In the store window what you have is merchandise.
"Show me the stone the builder rejected that is the keystone," Jesus, the enemy of the state, in the rejected Gospel of Thomas.
No Blood for Hubris calls me a Pre$$titute! Look my hands are tied! How can I be critical of the President's people when they slip me the soundbites and press reels from the front? We don't have the budget for a research department or reporters. C'mon Gang, let's keep it positive: Bush stand firm as poll numbers dip.
