One upon a time there was a playground, shared by two schools, an elite prep school, and a reform school for kids with anger management issues. At the breaks the angry kids milled about, pushing and shoving each other, on their corner of the playground. Then, one day, Jack from the prep school wandered over and started whispering to the angry kids about the preppy kids, about how they scorned the reform school, how they called the reform school kids, trash. Wandering back to his preppy friends, Jack now had an entourage of angry kids. And guess what? Soon there were bloody noses, then broken teeth, and it started getting worse. Did the preppy kids fight back? Hardly. Couldn't. Didn't know how. They had been taught that you ignored ignoble behavior, that good kids rise above it. And where was the Principal? Well, he had been elected by the District, a prep himself, with his own anger management issues, he had gotten elected, rousing the rabble. So, he let the kids work it out for themselves, so that word would get back to the parents, and they would get the bigger picture. What is your prediction?
Moral: When the best make use of the worst, the rest of us had better wake up, come together, and demonstrate a little courage. The longer we wait the more courage it will take, and among the preps courage is the last thing you find.
