Just a friendly tip here, buddy. You'll never become a think tanker unless you can demonstrate that Ivan Illich would support punishment enemas as part of deschooling society.

The tank he aspires to is a tub of water deep enough to drown his detractors, cuffed and shackled. The real think tankers provide him with the rationale, the cover story, the alibi, and ultimately the legislation, funding, and public relations push.

I'm trying to help him! Even the meanest brownshirt deserves a chance at rational maximization. Tanker; brute; functionally equivalent.

I don't want to tell tales out of -- heh, heh -- school, but we enjoy screening his playful conceits at the tank. It adds a certain je ne sais quoi to defenses of civil discourse.

Right, every neocon tank thinker has his or her dark shadow. Let it follow them about wherever they go.

Look, people. Let's get this straight.

There's us -- and there's them.

It's like, Dualistic Perception 101.

What's ok for us, is not ok for them. What's ok for them, is not ok for us.

There's something hard to follow here? Sheesh.

Oh, stop.

Kant's categorical imperative does not apply at the Decider level.

That explains it. However, I regard him more as the Deciderer, myself.

Merry Christmas, Tutor, by the way, assuming this wish to be appropriate?

Merry Christmas to you, if Buddhists celebrate it in your household.

The Deciderer has seized the power needed in his view to protect us from Terrorists. Those who want to go back to the old Constitutional way of doing things, under the real constitution with checks and balances, are in league with Terrorists. This is an old old ruse. To get back to where we need to be we will need a lot more will than the Democrats have shown. Maybe it starts with a few of us and spreads, as we document the signs that it is not Terrorists only who are in peril but anyone who gets sideways with the Decider's henchman right on down to the $7.50 an hour petty deciders at the airports, or wearing the uniforms of private security companies. People are scared, of Terror, of getting sideways with power. They should be scared. So we in our day learn how to employ "the weapons of the weak," in resistance to domination. Harping on "justice" only works when the Decider follows the prior rules. And we are now in a state of exception. So the new rules of engagement are those of every subaltern culture from time immemorial, create our own transcripts hidden in plain site, and learn to be wily survivors.

True, and well said, Tutor.

I'd add that the Constitutional way of doing things is an abnormality here. It's the exception and not very popular. It means bucking people who get nasty when their myths, lies and cruelties are called what they are. It's only ever been extent when the fractious folks -- the people for whom democracy means more than the election ritual -- put their disagreements with each other second in importance to extracting concessions from the political class. Who gave The Decider everything he asked for, and who keeps voting him the money, almost unanimously, even when he refuses to keep an account of how much and where it's spent?

Good Cop/Bad Cop is an old ruse too. The justice of the arrest and subsequent detention is never questioned. The justice of the law itself is never questioned either.

We do, thanks. We celebrate the "peace on earth, good will to men" part. An idea whose time has come?

Good President/Bad President.
Britney Spears and George Bush sittin on a trip-wire platform dangling above a somewhat-scummy see-through tank of water on the midway. Three balls for a dollar.
We're not rubes. Rubes don't know what's going on.
We know what's going on.
Therefore we are not rubes.

"We're not Rubes, we know what is going on." I am not sure I know even a tiny bit of what moves the world I see, but I am pretty sure the Punch and Judy show on the Midway is a distraction.

A Christmas message, Tutor. The crazy man out in the wet and cold is saner than the rest of us.

Thanks, blogged it. Merry Christmas, Mr. Scruggs.

And to you too, Tutor.
