These hotties walk into Wealth Bondage around lunch time and like ask me for a lap dance. Then when they get me in the booth, they hand me this Bible wrapped in a pink T-shirt. I had to explain that we are running a Conservative Think Tank here. Gawd! What do they take me for?

Dear Father, my Brother in the Body of Christ, J. Alva Scruggs, has written on Fun under.wealthbondage. As did you, he seeks to inspire a social movement for the good of others. He speaks of gifts and hospitality. The holy martyrs, like St. Lucy herself, went singing to their doom. May I when I am called to imitate your sacrifice go without complaint. We will not strew even a pinch of incense on Candidia's Altar. I will not worship the Market, nor the Idols the idolaters call "Brands." I would rather die as I have lived faithful to Thee, whose Kingdom is not of this earth. Meanwhile, here in the Catacombs, bless our fellowship and may we have fun too, amidst the dust and the bones of the liberals martyred in thy name. Forgive the Forces of Freedom, for they know not what they do. May they have eyes to see and ears to hear thy holy word. Support me in the hour of my need that I might bear witness. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. If I pray in error, correct me. If my feet are on the wrong path, guide me. Amen.
Craig at Long Sunday: "To assert the social is to destroy neo-liberalism."
Morality applies to family. Law to the economy. In the name of morality can one question the market order (Wealth Bondage)? One side says, "No! There is no outside of the market order!" The other side rallies in the streets of NY, Paris, New Orleans, along the US/Mexican border, or in the Dumpsters of Dallas, asserting that markets are inside society, and that society must answer to justice.
The public good, the will of the people, the commonweal - these are what revolutions have been waged in the name of. Solidarity versus Economic Man. No wonder dissent is deemed Treason by those whose social privileges and political power stem from concentrated wealth, earned or unearned. Wealth Bondage will never banish Society under.wealthbondage, build however many enclosures it will.
Lucy Tartan writes so well. If posts could be anthologized, this one
belongs in a collection entitled, "The Occassional Essay in The Age of
Blogging: The New Rambler."
It wasn't that long ago I was very poor, and routinely sold possessions
for food money. I only sold books a few times, though: the books I
really hated ran out fast, and rates of return just weren't high enough
to make it worth selling books I might want to read again. I did better
selling clothes and shoes and CDs. These notices remind me of the
pinching worry of those days.
To hestitate between food and books: May your children have such a teacher.
Norm on Lucy here. Lucy on 100 Things about Lucy here. She likes Dr. Johnson, Cavell, and Wilde among others; not figures commonly conjoined, though perhaps intimately related in some on-going Augustan tradition. I was flattered to find WB on her blogroll.
